The Native American Experience is myriad, complex, unique and wide-reaching due to our numerous tribes and current diaspora. It has been sold, studied, marketed, deified, romanticized and plagiarized continually by film studios, fashion brands, literature , authors, films, art and history museums, galleries and artists ad infinitum ( continually).
WHEN Natives are polled asked what we think about mascots, it’s not due to apathy we have no opinion, it’s due to the constant historical flow of exploitation of our own Native themes in Pop Culture. This has resulted in Institutional Racism for profit and Internalized Racism unknowingly.
You can rest assured that none of these agencies, studios, brands, organizations , fashionista, publications, return any PROFITS to Native American people after the casual use of semi-Native themes.
