In 2007 I traveled to the South Bronx NYC for the exhibition The Fort Apache Connection: HERE is the curators statement. It was held at Hostos Communty College on 149th St and Grand Concourse.
“A Bronx based exhibition by contemporary Apache artists, The Fort Apache Connection, will explore the falsehoods and realities of Apache images that historically have been conjured up and perpetuated by American popular culture… This exhibition will particularly respond to the implications of the 1981 movie ‘Fort Apache, The Bronx’ that despite the passing of time has left a lasting memory and a legacy of ignorance… I see this exhibition as an opportunity to bring together the two communities maligned by Hollywood into an arena of creative discovery.” Nadema Agard (Winyan Luta/Red Woman), Curator
